hello everyone and welcome to my blogs again. so today we are going to discuss the global democracy index and the reason for the downfall of India’s position.

WHAT IS GLOBAL DEMOCRACY INDEX?

basically, global democracy index is maintained by the intelligence unit of The Economist. In 2020 we are watching the survey of 2019 and this survey take place every year from the year it was started (2006).
this index covered around 165 independent states and 2 territories embodying approximately the overall population of earth.

Mainly Index is based on 5 categories
1- Electoral process and pluralism.
2- Civil Liberties.
3- Functioning of government.
4- Political participation.
5- Political culture.
By observing all these components the team of The Economist decide the stance of a particular country that the democracy of which country is in adequate condition or which country got an inadequate condition. let me make you clear one thing that this index was not backed from any other international organizations like UN, WORLD BANK etc.

RANK OF INDIA

This year India slipped 10 places to 51st position. it is placed in the  “Flawed Democracy ” category.
India’s score down from 7.23 in 2018 to 6.90 in 2019, is its lowest ever since the Democracy Index was begun in 2006.

REASON OF THIS DOWNFALL

According to the “The Economist” the main reason for the downfall of India’s position was a disruption in Civil Liberty. now you all are wondering the cause of disruption in Civil liberty. According to The Economist, Kashmir and the removal of Article 370 was the centre point of this whole downfall of India’s position and after that, The Economist also mention the National register of citizenship system of Assam.
